The Optical-Thermal Radiation Research Center was established in 2017 as an answer to the nation’s rising demands in aerospace thermal control, new energy and energy storage. It focuses on the fundamentals as well as the applied aspects of optical thermal radiation, and explores a wide variety of topics, such as the properties of thermal radiation and its transmission mechanism, micro/nanoscale thermal radiation, the measurement and calculation of thermal radiation, heat transfer for high-temperature solar energy and solar thermal storage, aircraft analysis and thermal control, thermal cloak and radiation characteristics control, the design of new energy materials, etc. In addition to fostering interdisciplinary research that brings together thermophysics, optics, materials, physics and chemistry, the Center is also committed to building collaborative relationships to engage not only other departments and schools at Shandong University but a broader range of universities and research institutions specializing in astronautics, with the prospect of addressing major challenges and delivering major progress through a collaborative effort.
